The Lord’s Prayer, Do You Understand What You Are Praying For?

1.“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your Name”
• What would it mean to you if you really believed that the Sovereign God of the universe really was YOUR Heavenly Father?  If God is YOUR Heavenly Father, talk to Him about you feel about this relationship. Find out how He wants to relate to and be part of your life.  If this relationship was what it ought to be, then talk to Him about how that would affect your relationship to others.
• As we acknowledge His holiness in this prayer we need to remember that we are called to be holy as He is holy (1Peter 1:15-16).  How should this effect what we do, what we say and the attitudes we express in our daily lives?

2. “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”
• What would your life look like if God asked you to answer that prayer?
• Are you seeking to do God’s will in every area of your life?  If not, why not? If not, when will you?
• In light of the fact that you are making these excuses why you cannot do His will now, do you really think they sound plausible to your Heavenly Father?  What are you going to do about doing His will?

What Does Your Future Look Like?

I was driving home from a meeting recently and noticed three young boys playing out on the front lawn of a home.  They were running around pushing and shoving each other as children will tend to do from time to time.  During the short time I had to watch this event before traffic moved on, the “fun” seemed to be diminishing, as the pushing and shoving became more intense.  What struck me the most, however, was the fact that there was a man just inside the open garage door who seemed to be more concerned with the bottle of beer that he was drinking than the events that were taking place on his front lawn.

Know What You Believe And Why You Believe It (Article)

There are many options being made available in spiritual circles these days for people to chose from.  Various religions are competing for people’s allegiance. Even within Christendom there are many denominations declaring their views about the interpretation of Scriptures.  How do we know who to listen to and what to believe?  Who is right and who is wrong?

Over the next year and more I will be sharing with you what I believe to be truth from God’s Word, the Bible.  It is important the followers of Jesus Christ know what they believe and why they believe it if they are to be fully committed to Jesus Christ and His Kingdom and “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15 – NIV).

We will be looking at the basic foundations of the Christian faith as articulated in the Articles Of Faith for the Church of the Nazarene.  It is may hope that we will have a better understanding of what we believe and why we believe by the time we get to the end of this theme focus.
