The Lord’s Prayer – Lesson 2
The Lord’s Prayer, Do You Understand What You Are Praying For?
1. “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your Name”
• How does God become my Heavenly Father?
• If God is my Heavenly Father how do I relate to Him and how does my relationship with Him effect my relationship with others?
2. “Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”
• What would it take in my life to have it match God’s will as it is in heaven?
• What is my role in God’s Kingdom? What is the role of the Church supposed to be in His Kingdom? How am I to be involved individually and as part of the Church?
3. “Give us this day our daily bread”
• What are the needs in your life, your family, throughout the jurisdiction of the your church, your local community and around the world?
• Pray for these needs as the Lord brings them to mind, but DO NOT GET BOGGED DOWN in this section as part of this exercise. You can pray for these specific needs at other times!!
• Talk to YOUR Heavenly Father about your faith in relation to His response to the needs you share with Him.
4. “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us”
• Is there someone you need to forgive? Do not limit God’s forgiveness in your life by your refusal to forgive others.
• What am I to do when it is difficult to forgive someone?
• What should my focus be why I need to forgive?
5. “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil (the evil one)”
• What do I need to do/change to reduce the opportunities that Satan can use to bring temptation into my life?
• Are you dealing with the choices to your lifestyle that God asked you to make in Lesson One?
• Intercede for those you know who have been and are victims of Satan’s temptations.
6. “For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever”
• Acknowledge YOUR Heavenly Father as the source of answered prayer.
• Acknowledge your position in His Kingdom by your surrender to Him and His will for your life.
7. BEFORE YOU SAY AMEN, end your time of talking with YOUR Heavenly Father with a time of thanksgiving and praise for all that He has done, is doing and will do in your life, your family, your church, your town, your province and your country.
If you earnestly participated in each of these segments of the Lord’s Prayer rather than simply reciting them, you will probably have spent more than an half hour in relationship building with YOUR Heavenly Father and ultimately with others in building His Kingdom.
If you have not worked through the questions and helps of Lesson One please start with it. While it only scratches the surface of all there is to learn as we seek to improve our relationship with our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ through praying the Lord’s Prayer it is a beginning point. Once you have spent time in Lesson One then proceed on with Lesson Two. Enjoy the blessings of improving your relationship with your Heavenly Father
